Munich to Paris via Black Forest

My son and I will be traveling this May from Munich to Paris and we want to go through the Black Forest on our way. Leaving Munich morning of 5/18 and need to be in Paris afternoon on 5/19. Trying to figure out train schedules and what we should focus on in Black Forest area. I have been to Germany previously, but not this area and my son is new to International Travel. Any advice greatly appreciated!

Take a look at www.bahn.com. Start in Munich and end in Triberg. Look at the details and see the one leaving at 8:47 with connections at Ulm and Immendingen. The train from Immendingen is a scenic mountain railway that climbs through the Black Forest with a lot of switchback turns, short tunnels on the the way to Karlsruhe.

If you click on the details, the train is RE 4716 and all the stops. after Triberg are Hornberg, Hausach, Haslach. All Black Forest towns. I've been to Triberg for an afternoon. Its the Cuckoo Clock capital. The others I just passed through, but a little research might show you a good one to stop at.

Next day, take the same train, its hourly so you can get an early one, to Offenburg, then change to a train across the river to Strasbourg, then a TGV direct to Paris.

Triberg is known for its cuckoo clocks but has more to offer than that. Triberg Waterfalls is allegedly Germany's highest waterfall (temper your expectations -- certainly don't expect Niagra Falls); I found the waterfalls interesting and fun, but I like waterfalls. The Schwarzwaldbahn Erlebnispfad (Black Forest Railroad Hiking Trail) takes hikers to nice vantage points to see the railroad. It has two loops -- the first is more forested (and at points gives some sense why the forest was labeled the Black Forest); the second loop is more open and gives grander views over the area (though the first loop has some nice views, too). The start point for the trails is near the Triberg Bahnhof, which is at the opposite end of town from the cuckoo clock stores and the Waterfalls.

If you take the route suggested by Sam you might want to skip one or two trains in Ulm to visit the famous gothic Münster. Another worthwhile stop yould be the baroque Beuron Abbey, beautifully situated in the upper Donau valley which your train will follow from Ulm onward.
