In early August, four of us plan to travel from Munich to Paris. We are considering the pros and cons of flying and taking a train. Any insights on pros and cons wold be appreciated!

Pros of train:

  • More comfortable
  • Better views
  • Cheaper if bought in advance
  • Can bring as much liquids as you want and use electronic devices whenever you want

Pros of flying:

  • Might be a tad faster (but not much)
  • Great if you like airport security checks

Without checking schedules, my bench mark is roughly five hours, maybe six. IF train ride is longer than six hours, I will consider flying. And six hours is not always a deal breaker. Flying is so inconvenient these days.

I've taken that train the other way last September, and I thought it was a good decision! Direct trains take 5:40, those with a connection in Stuttgart can take as little as 5:20. Since both Munich airport and CDG in Paris are quite far from their respective cities, there's only a small time advantage in flying, one hour perhaps? The train is more relaxing and the scenery is pleasant before Stuttgart.

These posts have confirmed our initial thoughts that the train is the better option for us!

I hadn't put in my thoughts yet but now I see your decision that is, in my mind, the correct one.
