Has anyone had any experience with renting a van with a driver to take them from Munich to Oberammergau? We have a party of
8 and were looking for a driver with knowledge of the area to give us some history on the drive. We would then take the train back from Oberammergau to Munich a couple of days later.

I think you should do some research on your own first to see if there is anything of interest that you would want a guide to show you between Munich and Oberammergau. I'm not sure it would be worth the extra cost. I think the Wittelsbacher had a palace on the west shore of Starnberger See, other than that?.

Oberammergau is such a small town, that spending more than a day there seems a bit much unless you are planning on some outdoor activities. Taking the train is so easy, I would just go down for 1 overnight and come back the next day. Maybe book a private tour in the town which would be interesting and worth the money.
