Munich to Nuremberg- Bayern Ticket, right?

4 adults are leaving Munich on April 15 to go to Nuremberg one way and staying in Nuremberg.

Is the Bayern Ticket still the best option for this scenario? I'm fine with leaving after 9AM that day.

So, I'll be using the Bayern Ticket for this Munich to Nuremberg one way and for a daytrip from Munich to Salzburg.

Take the RE 1 at 9:04 to Ingolstadt and transfer there to the continuing RE 1 to Nuremberg and you will get there by 10:50. If you wait for the 9:26 RB 16, which is direct, you will not get there until 12:15 because it makes 27 stops along the way. Although the Regio-Ticket Munich-Nuremberg is 3 EUR cheaper than the 59 EUR Bayern Ticket, the Bayern Ticket will give you free public transportation in Nuremberg for the rest of the day.

The Munich-Salzburg regional train leaves the Hbf at 55 or 56 past the hour, so you would have to take the 9:55, However, if each of you buys a 3.90 EUR MVV ticket, you can use that in addition to the Bayern Ticket. The train will stop at Munich Ostbahnhof at 9:03, then the Bayern Ticket will be valid for the rest of the day. Or if you are elsewhere in Munich, use public transport to Ostbahnhof and get the train there.

A day trip with the Bayern Ticket on April 13 or 14 - Saturday or Sunday - would not be impacted by the after-9-am restriction. Leave as early as you wish on either day and use only regional trains.

A normal search at the DB site will bring up journeys for high-speed trains, which you cannot use with the Bayern Ticket. You can isolate the regional train trips by clicking on "modes of transport" and selecting "local transport only" when you search.

It depends on how you define best. You can take a regional train to Nürnberg using the Bayernticket. But you can also take a high speed train. The high speed train is faster, but you need to buy a separate ticket.

Again, thanks everybody for your help.

Figuring out these train schedules have been more complicated than I expected.

I wouldn't have expected such a big difference if I had gone on another train 20 minutes later.

With the Bayern ticket, it will let me use public transportation in Nuremberg. But, my hotel is by the train station and I thought all the sights in Nuremberg are basically walkable in the Old Town part. Are the ruins of the Nazi rally grounds the only sight that I'd need to use public transportation for in Nuremberg?

This is because the 9:27 RB makes a diversion beyond Ingolstadt via Eichstätt and Treuchtlingen with many stops. You always have to take a train on the RE 1 line, otherwise it will be a miserably long journey.

Yes, but also the walk from the hotel to the courtroom of the Nuremberg Trials could be a bit long if you want to visit that too. Otherwise, everything in the Old Town is within easy walking distance.

Local transport can still be handy. I recall on a day trip, it started raining, so we ducked into the U-Bahn to get back to the train station.

That is largely correct. The NS Documentation Center is outside the city center as well, not far from the rally grounds. Nuremberg's zoo would call for additional transport too. Not sure what else you might be planning for that first day... I think you have mentioned taking OUTINGS from Nuremberg previously, something you could theoretically knock out immediately upon arrival in Nuremberg using that same Bayern Ticket...

Munich > Nuremberg 9:04 - 10:50

Nuremberg > Bamberg 11:10 - 11:52

Bamberg > Nuremberg (maybe after 4-5 hrs of sightseeing and some traditional Franconian food and drink... 19:39 - 20:19?)

The Bayern Ticket will also cover a bus ride between Bamberg station and Bamberg's old town center. Both train stations have lockers for storing bags.
