any thoughts or ideas around taking a short trip form munich to heidelberg?in december
How long are you in Munich? Are you talking about an overnight or a daytrip? Train or car? It's about 3 hours by train each way. I really liked Heidelberg myself and if I was in Munich for a week I might do a long day trip but more likely would try to fit it in as an overnight.
We are in Munich for 9 days. We could do an overnight or a 2 night depending on things to do in Heid
Loved Heidelberg. The castle, the bridge, the little town. We actually stayed at the IBIS at the train station. A great little modern hotel with a good breakfast. There is a tourist office in the Heidelberg Train Station Parking lot. There are lockers in the train station. Great Restaurants and Shops.
Have you considered Salzburg? Compared to Heidelberg, it's a much easier (shorter train trip) day (or overnight) trip from Munich...especially in Dec since the daylight hours are short..
Depending on when in dec the Xmas markets will probably be going on...loved the Heidelberg market and the city itself but if I could choose I would also head to Salzburg..their Xmas market was charming.
Go to Heidelberg! It's fantastic. In August we left Munich a day early and spent an extra day in Heidelberg, so glad I did. Heidelberg is my favorate city in Germany. I have been to Heidelberg many times and stayed at several hotels. Once I stayed at the Hollander Hof I will never stay anywhere else. It is right next to the old bridge. You can walk any place you want. It is in the old town and a fantastic location. Great breakfast. The smaller business breakfast is great and I believe 6 euro.coffee, meat, cheese, rolls, jam and jelly. Or you can get the buffet breakfast if you are really hungry. It can be very cold in Germany in December. I spent several Christmas' there. I loved every minute of it, but it was cold, so choose your location carefully.
We took a taxi from the Hbf to the hotel 10 euro each way. No need for a car, it can easily be walked. Ask for a room facing the river, you will thank me for it.
