Hi, we are getting out to Hohenschwangau to see the Bavarian castles in early October. I'm good with getting the Bayern ticket to take care of all transportation. As I was checking the DB Navigator app, the system says a departure from Munich Hbf (main station) just after 9am getting to Fussen (we're going on a Friday) would have me taking an S-bahn train to Munich-Pasing station where I'd transfer to the regional train out to Fussen.
A much older topic on the forum says I could be going straight through if I caught the train at Munich Hbf at the "Starnberger Flügelbahnhof", a wing station of the main station... A Google AI answer says I won't need that outlying area. The quick description in Rick's Pocket Munich book doesn't mention any of this.
So, what should I be expecting and doing? I can get the Bayern ticket online so I don't even have to go to the main Hbf if I am making a transfer at Pasing, I could probably get straight there. But do I need to?
Thanks!
It's not so much old info but amended. The annual plan does say the direct train leaves the Hbf at 09:22 but major engineering work is now ongoing in Munich which means reduced capacity. And since this train is an oddity in the hourly plan it has been cut back to Pasing. Also, the return service at 17:20 from Füssen will end at Pasing. On certain dates, especially weekends, the cut off point has been even further west.
The reference to Starnberger Flügelbahnhof is only really important if you were changing trains at Hbf, especially from the Salzburg lines, because the distance would be more than you would normally expect, if you were walking in off the street you probaly wouldn't notice the width of the station. And if you came from the Hauptbahnof Nord tram and bus stop you would be straight in to the correct area!
