I wonder if someone knows what is going on in Munich the week of May 30, I am aware of the Rock festival in Olympic park on the 27-29, I found a room for those days but the days after are either all booked up or three times the normal rate. I also notice the next week everything is back to normal. Does anyone know what this is all about? All my normal Hotels are booked?

Hotels being booked up usually means something is going on at the Messe München (http://www.messe-muenchen.de). A quick check shows that the IFAT (http://www.ifat.de/trade-fair/exhibition-profile/at-a-glance/) is scheduled from May 30 - June 3. It draws over 100k visitors so that is likely what is booking up your normal rooms.

I have encountered this trade fair problem several times in München, Nürnberg and Frankfurt. You can not curse them as fairs keep the hotels open. I work my travel schedule around fairs. Weekends (Fri-Sun) are usually fair-free and often have bargain prices. The saving grace to all of this is that München is surrounded by many worthwhile travel destinations, giving me many options.
