Requesting help with driving the leg of our October 2020 trip that takes us from Munich to Strasbourg, France -- What is the most logical, but scenic route?
Or should we make an overnight stop? Possibly Bad Wildbad, Tübingen or Baden-Baden?
Suggestions appreciated!
Jen - You could make an overnight stop in Stuggart or Tübingen Germany on your way to Strasbourg France.
My 20 yo "Strassen & Reisen" road atlas suggests maybe driving the Autobahn to Lindau, then along the Bodensee with the scenic towns of Lindau, Wasserburg, Meersburg, Uberlingen. At the northwest end of the lake. get back on the Autobahn to Donauschingen, then the "Gruene Strasse" (scenic road) to Neustadt, Titisee, to Freiburg, also marked as a scenic town. Then to the northeast through the Black Forest to Haslach, then scenic town of Gengenbach. Then to Offenburg and back on the Autobahn to Strasbourg.
Sam´s recommendation sounds fine. Also check out the Allgäu west of Munich (Oberstdorf or Forggensee) if you get the chance.
I lived in Augsburg, Germany for four years and have traveled all over southern Germany.
The southern, scenic route along the Bodensee and through the Black Forest would be my choice. Travel will be slow, roads will be curvy and you will go though many towns, so speed will not apply, but you will see much more than taking the Autobahn through Stuttgart and then down to Strasbourg. That autobahn is always very heavy with traffic anyway. Stuttgart is called stau-city. A stau is a road block.
With Sam’s route I would stay in Meersburg and on the other route, Tubingen
