You need an Airport-City Day Ticket for a group (€24.30). Validation is NOT required – ticket is valid immediately upon purchase.

You can also buy the airport-city ticket on the München navigator app if you like to do those things in advance. Just make sure you select the correct date so it doesn't automatically give you today's date. You can do it one month in advance but not earlier.

Here is the webpage (in English) for tickets on the MVV (Munich metro) website. Yes, there are Tageskarte (day tickets) for the MVV. The group day ticket (Gesamtnetz = entire network), for 24,30€, will get you unlimited use of all the conveyances of the Munich metro for an entire day (until 6 AM the following morning). You can use it to come in on the S-Bahn from the airport and for additional transport (U-Bahn, tram, bus) to your hotel, then for transport to Dachau and back.

If you plan to go to Dachau in the "pm", note that the Memorial closes at 5 pm. The last English tour is at 1 pm, although you can still tour on your own or with an audio guide.

As for validation, some ticket are sold in advance for any date. They need to be "cancelled" on before using. They have "Hier entwerten" (cancel here) printed on the end that goes into the cancelling machine. Others are for the specific date purchased and already have the date printed on them. They do not have "Hier entwerten" one the end and do not have to be cancelled. Tickets that don't have to be cancelled are too wide to fit into the machines anyway.

Or just buy the Airport Day Group Ticket (as mentioned above) before you leave and you’ll have in hand when you land in Munich.
