My wife and I will be in Munich this weekend and plan on visiting Schloss Nymphenburg this Saturday afternoon and the Residenz this Sunday after mass at Frauenkirche. Do I need to pre-purchase tickets on-line or are tickets readily available at the palaces without long lines? Thanks.

It's been a number of years since we visited both Nymphenburg and the Residenz, but there were no issues with long lines at that time. Someone with more recent experience may indicate otherwise.

You should be fine with both. I visited Nymphenburg Palace on a weekend during Oktoberfest and it was not overly busy. You can spend a few hours walking around the gardens. The Residenz gardens are much smaller but are also attractive.
