Munich or Vienna for Christmas?

Hello Everyone,
We are planning to go to either Vienna or Munich for Christmas. We want to visit the Christmas markets, of course, but also want to spend Christmas with our family in a place that feels "Christmasy" and celebratory with our three adult children, ages 23, 21 and 18. If you could please weigh in on which you'd prefer given our wishes and demographic it would be much appreciated!

Thank you,
Lisa

Have not spent Christmas in Vienna so cannot compare. Munich was fun as we arrived several days prior to Christmas. But at noon, early afternoon on Christmas eve everything especially the Christmas markets began shutting down. By 6 pm most of the Christmas market was gone and local restaurants, still open, were packed. Christmas day everything was closed except the beer halls. And they were packed, mostly with locals, having a great time. We found an end on one of the tables and joined in. Spent most of the PM there. Munich is a big city with lots of activities. Earlier in the week we had been in Rothenburg and that place really felt old world Christmasy. Munich not so much but still very festive. We enjoyed ourselves. And have heard that Vienna is very nice.
