Munich on December 25th ???

We're looking into traveling to Germany this Christmas and our proposed itinerary has us arriving the evening of the 24th in Munich and departing the morning of the 28th. I see Dachau is closed on the 25th but open on the 26th. We were thinking of visiting Munich city on the 25th, Dachau on the morning of the 26th and then Saltzburg as a day trip on the 27th then moving on to Fussen on the 28th.

Looking for advice on if anything will be open in Munich on the 25th? If not, would you recommend we try to get there a day earlier (ie stay a day longer? If so, if you had the choice, would you drop Nuremburg, Wurtzburg or Rotherberg for the extra day in Munich?

Any advice appreciated.

Hi! I am native German... Nothing will be open on the 25th. Christmas is the evening of the 24th and after that we have 3 holidays where everything is closed except for gas stations and he 2nd holiday café shops. I am surprised Dachau is open, I would confirm per e-mail. However now that I am typing its an open area and maybe just that is open and not the museum. I was there 2 years ago and while it was closed, we could still walk around the closed buildings. Also December 25th is the traditional Goose feast where most of Germany eats a fancy meal with a cooked goose, dumplings and red cabbage. Delicious. If I were you I would travel at least a week earlier and enjoy the Christmas markets. My favorite thing to do! Wurzburg also has a beautiful market. Enjoy your trip

I too had heard most of Germany is shut down Dec 24-26, so we ended up switching up our trip a little and we will spend Dec 24-27 in Prague. Lots of things are open there and it looks awesome. We found some open restaurants too.

Vienna I believe also had some xmas markets open on 12/25, as does Salzburg.

Good luck and enjoy your trip!
