I will have 6/18-21 to spend before flying out of Germany. I am thinking of 2 days in Munich, and 2 days around Eibsee. Which would be less busy during weekdays? If Munich is busier on weekends, I may stay in Munich Thurs and Friday, then head to Eibsee for Saturday-Sunday. Or would it be better to visit Eibsee area Thursday-Friday, and Munich on a Saturday or Sunday? It's my first time to Germany. Thank you
Munich is a major European city that's worthy of your full 4 days. There's so much to see and do there. And like all large cities, it's busy every day. But we've never felt overly rushed when there traveling the popular tourist sights.
It probably depends on your interests, which you do not mention. You could do all 4 days in either place - Munich has lots, and the Garmisch-Partenkirchen/Eibsee/Mittenwald area at the edge of the Alps has lots more. It is only about a 90 minute train ride from Munich Hbf to Garmisch-Partenkirchen so it could be a long day trip too that includes a trip up the cog railway to the top of the Zugzpitze, and back down via the gondola to the Eibsee (it is quicker).
Have fun.
You need to realize that, even during heavy tourist season, almost nothing is open on Sundays. Even in Munich you can be totally alone before 11am walking the streets of the old town. I love Sunday mornings, as that's the best time for taking pictures without hundreds of people you don't know in them, but other than a coffee shop or backeri nothing's open. Small towns may not have anything except the local Gasthaus open.
Shops aren't open on Sundays, but museums and other attractions will be.
Thank you all for your information and tips! Especially helpful about Sundays. I've decided to go to Eibsee first, then Munich, and Munich Sunday morning all quiet sounds perfect. Then I'll be able to get to the airport from Munich easier as well.
Oh, and my interests, nature! And a few museums. I want to go to Nymphenburg, The Residenz, and Alte Pinakothek in Munich. And Botanical Gardens. Otherwise I would prefer to get out of big city and spend time in the mountains. Thanks again.
