Munich itinerary advice please

Hi, my wife and I will be in Germany for 5 full days during our Europe trip in Sept. I am planning the Munich portion and would appreciate some feedback and advice. Below is a rough itinerary but we are debating on spending the first night in Salzburg. If we did, this would cut out 2 full days in Munich. Is 3 days enough in Munich or would you suggest keeping 5 with Salzburg being a day trip? Are there any 'must see' sites that we should add at either location? I'm wishing we had planned for a few more nights but the flights and trains have already been purchased.

Day 1
- Arrive in Munich at 7:10am from overnight train
- Drop luggage off at hotel - Hotel Royal
- Marienplatz
- Viktualienmarkt
- Explore

Day 2
- Salzburg day trip
— Ice Caves
— Hohenwerfen Castle
— Sound of music sites if we have enough time

Day 3
- Nueschwanstein Castle Tour - Radius Tours or Mikes Bike Tours

Day 4
- BMW World/Museum
- Dachau Tour?

Day 5
- Open to suggestions

Day 6
- Fly Home

Thanks!
Tyson

We rented bikes and biked around Englisher Garden and it was nice. I think Mike's Bikes does a tour in the city as well that we saw and it looked fun!

Just two suggestions - we ate at Zwickl near the Viktualienmarkt and it was really good! And we did the Mike's Bikes Neuschwanstein tour and really loved it!

Last trip we did Dachau and I thought it was worthwhile.

Have fun!

I just got home from two days in Munich and feel like I saw a lot. We arrived at about 2pm on Friday, did the Third Reich Radius Tour, walked around Marienplatz and had dinner. The next day we did the Dachau Radius Tour and then saw the rest of Munich we wanted to see. Sunday we came home to Prague. If I had been there one more day I would have tried to squeeze in a day trip to Nueschwanstein.

The Dachau Tour (with Radius) is a five-hour day and it's well worth it but you do a lot of walking. I can't imagine going to a museum afterwards but that's just me.

We went to Salzburg last summer and I would recommend you stay there if you want to see those three things. The ice caves alone took a few hours to see. First you check in and buy your tickets and then you walk quite a ways up a steep mountain and then you take the tour and then you walk back down the mountain. If you stop to enjoy the amazing views, have a bite to eat, etc…you are looking at a long day.

You have a lot on your itinerary for Salzburg, and Salzburg is well worth an overnight trip, so I would stay one night there. Salzburg old town is pretty at night. In Munich, I would add the Englischer Garten and/or Nymphenburg palace grounds. Salzburg and Munich are both two of my favorite places. Have fun!
