Hi Everyone! We are very excited to be taking a Danube River Cruise this summer! It will be a multi-generational trip with my husband, 8 yr old daughter, and parents in their 70's. We would like to explore Munich the day before the cruise departs Vilshofen on June 28th. Any suggestions on how best to spend our day? We will likely be arriving in the morning of June 27th.

So that I am clear, you arrive from the US in Munich the morning of the 27th and then head to Vilshofen the morning of the 28th either on your own or via cruise line transport from Munich. This gives you the afternoon and evening of the 27th in Munich.
First, get a hotel in the Old Town area. With the little time you have you don't need to spend time on the metro. Second, download and do Rick's Munich City Walk via Audio Europe. IMO walking is one of the best ways to combat jet lag. Third, have dinner at http://www.augustinerkeller.de/. Munich's largest beer garden. If time permits during or after your walking tour, visit the Residenz.

I agree with jkh's suggestions. Not much time for anything else, especially on a jet lagged arrival day. And Augustinerkeller is a great idea for dinner.
