Munich Hotels: Torbrau, Haus im Tal, DO & CO Hotel, Platzl Hotel?

Hi everyone,

Looking for recommendations or feedback on a few hotel options for early September—planning to stay around 4 days (we’re flexible, and cost isn’t that much of a concern). Any thoughts on these spots, or suggestions for even better places? Also curious if there’s anything happening around town that we might want to avoid when picking where to stay.

  • Torbrau (read about in RS)
  • Haus im Tal (Google)
  • DO & CO Hotel (Google and Condé Nast)
  • Platzl Hotel (Google)

We’re aiming to stay in Old Town with easy walking access to sights, since it’s a short stay before we catch the train to Italy.
Thanks in advance! Also we have not reviewed against TripAdvisor just yet; I trust the RS forums above anything else.

It's been about 8 years, but loved our stay at Hotel Torbrau; location, room, breakfast, breakfast room balcony! (All these years later, I'm still trying to find an equivalent yogurt they served here in the US.)

Diagonally opposite from the 'Hotel Torbräu', the 'Haxnbauer' has reopened again. I'd never been there in the past until yesterday, as I don't eat much meat anyway. Yesterday, I accompanied someone there and tried a small piece of pork knuckle. It was very tasty. The crust was crispy and the meat juicy. If anyone fancies pork knuckle, just try it. I hope they can always conjure up such a great crust.

We stayed at the Platzl a few years ago and loved it. Fantastic location (a couple of blocks from the opera house, our main reason for going, but we walked to almost everything else as well), comfortable rooms, and excellent service from every single staff person we interacted with. The food in their breakfast room and two affiliated restaurants was excellent. I highly recommend it!

I stayed at the Platzl in 2018 during the Christmas markets and liked it a lot. It was in a great location, easy to walk to Marienplatz, and had a good breakfast.

We also stayed at the Platzl and loved it. The location is perfect - right around the corner from the Marienplatz - but not on it, so it's a bit quieter. The breakfast was fantastic.
