Munich hotels in July with 2 kids

My family will be staying in Munich for 4 nights, 7/6-7/10 before moving on to Frankfurt. We are am looking for a hotel that will hopefully fit us all in one room, I realize that is difficult. The kids (10&7) can share a bed is needed.
Our visit will mainly focus on Deutsches museum, English Garden, and Old Town. Close to transportation links would be ideal to minimize walking with luggage for the kids. Places serving breakfast would be great. I’d like to keep it less than $400 per night if possible.
All suggestions welcome, thanks in advance.

I’m unsure if your $400 maximum price is per night or for all 4 of you for 4 nights. One price is very doable the other isn’t. In looking on Booking.com at your dates for 4 people in a family room or quad a couple of good options show up in a less than $1,000 price range for 4 people for 4 nights with breakfast, Hotel Der Tannenbaum and Hotel Antares. They are both traditional older hotels. We’ve stayed near the Tannenbaum near Sendlingertor several times and like that location. Hotel Antares is just west of the Englischergarten.

If your price is per night then you have more options.

I did a search on booking.com for your dates, location, and family size. It came up with 17 possibilities, but 16 of them were hotels with two separate rooms. So I checked “entire apartment” and it offered suites in fancy hotels ranging from $4000-$11000!

Finally I checked “family friendly” and came up with one: City Aparthotel, with a two-room apartment with double bed in the bedroom and sofa bed in the living room, which has a kitchenette. Booking.Com says $1700 for the 4-night stay, but it should be less if you book direct.

The location is fine—-halfway between the main train station and the Sendlingertor U-bahn stop, and close to the pedestrian zone for walking to Marienplatz.

The places suggested by Mona did not appear on my booking.come search, perhaps because I specified Viktualienmarkt” as the desired neighborhood. Nor did Hotel Uhland, which is often suggested here. Hotel Uhland does have family rooms with 4 beds, and if I search it separately the price on booking.com comes to $1100. I could not get their own website to show 4 nights (it is a bit clunky) but the price for individual nights during those dates appears to be around €290, which is close to $1200 for 4 nights.

Hotel Uhland is nice and family-friendly; I stayed there with my sister’s family 25 years ago. But I would not recommend it for your family due to the location—-it is a long-ish walk from the train station in the opposite direction from the pedestrian zone, and there is no U-bahn station nearby. It was fine for our stay for one night with adults and teen children, but with four nights I suggest you focus on a more convenient location, even if it means paying a bit more.

You might look at B&B Hotels. It’s a French budget hotel chain that has family rooms in many locations. I don’t have any experience with the Munich hotels but we stayed in B&B hotels in Nürnberg and Frankfurt some time ago when the kids where younger.
Rooms are small, functional and clean and locations rather in business areas. A family room would include a double-bed and a bunk-bed.
I checked B&B HOTEL München City-West, Tübinger Straße 5. It has family rooms available for your given time. There would be nothing of interest in walking distance from the hotel. But it’s close to U-Bahn “Westendstrasse” that is 4 stations away from Hauptbahnhof (main station) on U4/U5.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I know I got a late start with planning but I did not realize there would be so few options. I will take a look at all that were suggested. Also, edit to $400 per night.

Recently stayed at the Munich Marriott (Schwabing neighborhood, quiet and more residential) during Viking river cruise extension and highly recommend this hotel! Walking distance to U-bahn stop; few stops on single line to Marienplatz. Small grocery store and bakery in walking distance. My sister and I had a 2 double bed room (for your dates, currently going for approx 230 euros per night.) Amazing breakfast buffet included with rates! "American" casual restaurant on site if you're too tired to go out again for dinner (also had German classic menu items; never looked busy, but service was fast and friendly.) Nice gym and indoor pool and jacuzzi!

In addition to The Marriot listed above , is The Pullman Hotel , just down the street a bit closer to the UBahn station . Ive been staying there for years , usually for about two weeks per visit , and love the area , under ten minutes on the metro to Marienplatz . , One of my favorite places Look here on the map , The Marriot is just up to the left from the Pullman - https://www.google.com/maps/place/Pullman+Munich/@48.1730653,11.592699,17z/data=!4m18!1m8!3m7!1s0x479e75f9a38c5fd9:0x10cb84a7db1987d!2sMunich,+Germany!3b1!8m2!3d48.1351253!4d11.5819805!16s%2Fm%2F02h6_6p!3m8!1s0x479e75b4cfac7a7d:0xcbe9b792dde8e9e2!5m2!4m1!1i2!8m2!3d48.1728864!4d11.5946659!16s%2Fg%2F1tg5b2gc
