Munich Hotel recommendations

Guten Tag

Am looking for Munich hotel recommendations for next September 7-11 leaving before Oktoberfest. Generally I look for hotels in the $125-175 per night range, good value 3 stars with good breakfast and located in general downtown area but not right in the middle of it(noise, congestion etc.).

Rick doesn`t have many recommendations so thought I would get some advice from seasoned travelers.

Happy Thanksgiving to all

I always stay at the Eden Hotel Wolff, located directly across the street (Arnulfstrasse) from the Munich main RR station, about a ten-minute walk to the Marian Platz.
Friendly and helpful English-speaking staff, excellent breakfast buffet.
Rooms are clean and comfortable.

I loved where I stayed in Munich - Hotel Am Markt (http://www.hotel-am-markt.eu/home/). It is in the middle of it, being just off the viktualienmarkt and a short walk to marienplatz and the metro stop. However I did not find noise to be an issue and that was in the middle of July (high tourist season). Nice room, great bed, good breakfast (extra € but still leaves the hotel within your budget). Gets good reviews on all the sites. Was able to walk or metro everywhere with ease.

Hotel Uhland is in the downtown area, a few blocks south of the Bahnhof, but in a quiet neighborhood. I haven't stayed there myself, but others on this site have recommended it.

On the other hand, Pension Lindner is very close to Marienplatz in the Altstadt, but not expensive enough for you.

I have stayed at the Uhland and it matches pretty much all your requirements. The only issue at that time of year is that it is very close to the Oktoberfest site, and although you say you're leaving before then it might be heavily in demand from people who are going to Oktoberfest and it's possible there might be noise and disruption from the pre-event set up period.

I stayed in Hotel Uhland in that same timeframe before Oktoberfest a few years ago and thankfully there was no noise or disruption with the set-up. At the hotel I couldn't tell anything was going on with Oktoberfest. It was actually kind of fun to walk down to the park where it is held and watch the set-up. I really like Hotel Uhland, it's staff, and breakfast.

We stayed at the Hotel Uhland during that same time this year and absolutely loved it. We walked over to the Oktoberfest area and could see logistics of the Oktoberfest and amaze at the size etc. We could walk easily to the train station, the S-bahn station, and Marienplatz. I highly recommend it.

We stayed at the Hotel Antares last time we were in Munich. Really good breakfast. Not so good wi-fi. Clean rooms. Exceptionally good bathroom! 10 minute walk from the city center. Alta Pinakothek is right around the corner. Quiet street just outside the old-town core. Very nice staff. Small garden in the back.

Mike,

Hotel Uhland would be a great choice, as it's in a nice location close to Theresienwiese (where the Oktoberfest is held). The rooms are very comfortable and they serve a great breakfast. You will need to book as early as possible!

I've stayed at Uhland in the past, but on later trips have stayed at Hotel Royal as it's very close to the main station. Royal is in a somewhat "colourful" neighborhood but that doesn't bother me in the least. The rooms are comfortable, the staff are wonderful and they also serve a great breakfast.

One thing to pay attention to when searching for German hotels is whether breakfast is included in the price, extra price, or even offered. I know some people don't eat breakfast, but I find it nice to throw on some clothes and have coffee and a nice breakfast before going back to my room and preparing for the days activities. Some hotels (Uhland, Eden Wolff, Royal, Lindner) include a breakfast buffet in the price, some hotels have a breakfast buffet but don't include it in the price. It's shown as an added extra cost (usually very extra), and others just let you buy brealfast a la carte in their restaurant. I always look for restaurant with Frühstück inclusive.

In addition to those mentioned above, I'd also recommend one of the several Motel One locations around town. They are all three star with a decent breakfast buffet.

Just want to say thank you to all who took time to offer your suggestions-always helpful. Will look into hotels today-probably leaning towards Hotel Uhland which has so many good recommendations .

Thanks again
