Munich Hotel/apt/bandb

We are arriving in Munich by train from Innsubruck. We will stay 3 nights. We are thinking 2 nights near the train station and 1 night near the airport before we fly out. Any suggestions as to places to stay near the train station? Or is it feasible to stay all 3 nights near Airport and commute into town? Thanks for any suggestions

Why not stay all three nights near the Marianplatz S-Bahn station, in the heart of Munich? You can use the S-Bahn to get from the train station to your hotel, and then from your hotel to the airport.

I have never cared for the area around the train station.

Staying near Rosenheimerplatz or Ostbahnhof might be a good compromise. You'll still be near the city and have easy access to the S8 to get to the airport on your departure date. I'm partial to MotelOne myself.

I agree with Lola. Stay where you want to see the sites. When you're near the Marienplatz, you will be able to walk to local sites and not waste so much of your vacation time in Munich commuting back & forth to a hotel near the train station.

We stayed a few blocks away from the Marienplatz last year and had no problem catching the U & S-Bahn to the train station when we left Munich to head towards Austria.

We have spent our last nights both in Munich and in Freising. We prefer Freising for the last day. In addition to being a 15 minute taxi ride to the airport, it is a good day visiting the Domberg (cathedral on the hill) and the Weihenstephan brewery grounds. We like the Hotel Bayerischer Hof in Freising,

and enjoy a good German meal and beer at the Wirthaus Huber.

The small town laced with water and walk ways. We like the quiet ambience for our last day before flying out.

Hi,

Near the station the small hotels and Pensionen (numerous) are located on Schillerstrasse and Goethestrasse. I stay in a Pension near the station and on departing day took the S-Bahn 8 from the station to the airport.

Stay in town all 3 nights so you don't have to commute back and forth. What a waste of time and money it would be to stay near the airport.
Another Motel One fan here. Good prices, large comfy beds and great showers.

What time is your departing flight? I agree with the others that it would be better to spend all three nights in the same hotel, and there are lots of nice hotels listed in the guidebook. It's very easy to get from the main station to the airport via the S1 or S8 (about 45 minutes as I recall).

For a 10:20 flight, I would try to be at the airport by 7:50 (2½ hours early). I would stay near Marienplatz. It take 36 minutes on the S8 to the airport. If you leave Marienplatz on the 6:59 S8, you will get to the airport at 7:35, giving you 2h45min to make the flight.

Pension Lindner, at Dultstrasse 1, is only about a 4 minute walk to Marienplatz.

Any suggestions for Marianplatz Hotels? We have found a few but somewhat expensive. The Hotel Bavaria seems very nice but $300 per night

Any suggestions for Marianplatz Hotels?

Marienplatz (correct spelling might help)

Besides the aforementioned Lindnerhof, also see Vikualienmarkt and Blauer Bock.
