Munich - hotel and car advice

So, in reading these forums, I get the sense we will not want to drive the rental car we will have while we are in Munich for 3 days. I am thinking we will find somewhere to park it near our hotel, and not take it back out the whole time we're there. With that in mind, if we stay in Ludwigsvorstadt area, can we see pretty much everything on foot or still need a bus pass? (Looking at Hotel Drei Loewen and Mercure Munchen City Centre)

The only reason we are not returning our car when we get to Munich is because it's actually cheaper to keep it a couple extra days for the weekly rate and then we'll drive to airport.

Is that it is cheaper after paying for parking to keep it the extra days?

How much do the hotels want for the parking? Most Mercures are usually €15 to €22 a day.

Parking where you are staying is a good idea as long as the parking is free and readily available.

"can we see pretty much everything on foot or still need a bus pass?" - yes for me and the missus, depends on what you consider a long walk. I like Munich more than some on this board. It's about 20 minutes from the Drei Lowen to Marienplatz on foot, 30 minutes to the bottom end of the English Garten, just over an hour to Nymphenburg. There's lots to see within the vicinity of Marienplatz (museums, churches, nice stores, Viktualienmarkt).

Okay, good points. We're going to look into how much we'd save by going ahead and returning the car when we get to Munich.

Anyone know anything about either of those two hotels?

Just return the car early...don’t change your reservation.

I'd love to be able to help with the hotels but when I drive to Munich (frequently and with my own car from England) I stay just nearby in Feldkirchen and take the S-Bahn in, and when we stayed in the centre it was several years ago and we were west of the the Englishergarten at a chain, maybe Marriott, but I don't remember (I do remember the omelette chef however, who was from near me in England). But that doesn't help you, I'm afraid. Sorry.
