Munich hotel- air conditioning in May?

Husband and I will be in Munich May 24-27, 2016 and I am narrowing down hotel choices. So many do not have AC- how important is that going to be? Those that do have AC- will it even be turned on in May? I just spent first 2 weeks this June in Vienna, Budapest, Berlin, Amsterdam and we had some incredibly hot weather- all of our hotels did have AC and we were so glad of it!

I have a short list now- all are within our budget, have similar ratings, and meet our criteria for the most part- good location, good bkft, comfort/safety. We usually lean towards best location for sights- we like to be central if possible which allows us to stop in hotel during our day.
Our plans for Munich are the main tourist sight and a day trip to Dachau. We will be arriving/departing via train.

Hotel Blauer Bock—no AC- great location, bkft, etc
Mercure Alstadt Munchen- AC, great location, good bkft- but not much in way of character
Eden Hotel Wolff- AC, not sure about location near train station? too noisy/busy?

I have searched through previous threads and see that Blauer Bock seems to be a favorite here.

Would appreciate any input on these choices and thoughts on the importance of AC?

Only God knows if the weather in Munich in May of 2016 will require air conditioning. I have lived through hot spells in Munich in May and weather so cool that it was known as "The green winter."
The only one of your suggested hotels with which I am familiar is the Eden Wolff, where I stay every time I am in Munich. It's across the street from the RR station, not noisy, everythiing is sound-proofed.
Excellent staff, excellent restaurant, very good breakfast, comfortable lobby, comfortable rooms, free International NYTimes newspaper and Economist news magazine.
Easy walk to the MarienPlatz and other sites.
Enjoy yout trip.

It's not a bad idea to go with a characterless, well-located hotel once in awhile.

As for weather, I've been in Germany for over three weeks, the first week was hot, then it turned cold and sometimes rainy everywhere I went. You never know. I've been in Berlin for four days and today was the first morning people on the street weren't wearing jackets.

It varies greatly year to year, but if you had to make a guess... you probably won't need it. Even if the weather is uncomfortably warm during the day, it usually cools off at night. Provided the hotel isn't on a particularly busy street, you can just keep the window open at night and let the room cool off.

I lived in Germany for several years, and here's a sample: Two years ago in Germany, I didn't put away my winter coat for the last time until June. Last year, I was wearing a light jacket at night, but nothing more than a long sleeve shirt during the day. I took a trip back to Germany and Austria this year and I was mostly wearing short sleeves during the day and a jacket at night. So... it varies.

If you opt for a hotel with no AC, check to see if they at least have fans. We stayed at Pension Lindner in Munich this summer and they do not have fans. There was a heatwave and we were really uncomfortable at night. A simple fan would have helped a lot!

Thanks all for your input. I know weather can not be predicted but I figure IF I can get a place with AC for a reasonable rate might as well book that over a place without!

Joan- I took your advice and booked Eden Hotel Wolff- it actually had the best rate over the other 2 and I assume you have very good taste since you also live in Gettysburg. I'll continue to keep an eye on the other choices for a better rate but for now I am happy with it.

Zoe- I know exactly what you are saying and we have certainly booked into less charming places just to get other benefits like location, etc. You were very helpful to me last year while I was planning our Italy trip.
