Last winter I arrived at the Hauptbahnhof in Munich expecting to see some construction. I was amazed at the extent, and the difficulty I had exiting to a street and walking along with oncoming traffic and a sidewalk that dwindled down to nothing. I may be going back to Munich this winter and wondered if anyone knows if there is a safe way to get in and out of the station. An underground passage perhaps? Thanks
That depends on your destination, of course. If it's in the centre, I would take the S-Bahn or U-Bahn anyway. Otherwise, the south exit (to tram stop #19) is largely unobstructed at the moment, from where you can get to Bayerstrasse in the direction of Stachus. Through the S-Bahn basement you can reach the streets on the north side of the station (Arnulfstrasse, Dachauerstrasse, Luisenstrasse) and also the parallel street to Bayerstrasse, Prielmayerstrasse, which also leads to Stachus.
