Munich, Fussen & Garmisch Partenkirchen

Hello everyone,

Greetings from Singapore!

I have fix the initial plan as follow after done a lot of research. Any suggestions to fine tune the plan or sharing of experiences is much much appreciated,

Especially on Day 12 – 17 (24/5-29/5, 6 days): To cover Fussen and Garmisch Partenkirchen (“G-P”). Trying very hard to find the best way to connect the journey and thinking how to make best use of weekends, when the Bayern Ticket is valid from 12 midnight to 3am (+1).

Day 1 -10: Budapest > Vienna > Salzburg (cover Hallstatt & Berchtesgaden)

Day 11: 23/5 (Sun) – Salzburg > Munich.
- stay Munich and leave luggage at Munich’s hostel, travel light to Fussen and Garmisch Partenkirchen (“G-P”).
- Possible to use Bayern Ticket for departing from Salzburg?

Day 12 – 17 (24/5-29/5, 6 days): To cover Fussen and Garmisch Partenkirchen (“G-P”)

  • Fussen mainly for Neuschwanstein Castle, hopefully Marienbrücke is re-open by then.
  • Plan to use Garmisch-Partenkirchen as a base to explore Oberammergau, Mittenwald and maybe Zugspitz if weather is good. I am a hiking lover.
  • Found that the direct bus from Fussen to G-P only runs on Sat & Sun. Train ride takes > 3 hours with transfer. Is better to do a day trip from Munich for Fussen. And go G-P from Munich.
  • what kind of ticket is suitable: Bayern pass, RVO day pass ?
  • any other places that is convenient for travelling via public transport?

Day 18: 30/5 (Mon): Explore Munich, Outbound flight Munich > Singapore, departs 19:35

Thanks in advance^^

You can use the Bayern Pass to go from Salzburg to Munich.

How much luggage do you have that you need to leave some in Munich?

"Found that the direct bus from Fussen to G-P only runs on Sat & Sun. "

Wrong. Here is the schedule for the bus from Garmisch-Partenkirchen to Füssen (or Hohenschwangau). In fact, there are probably more buses from GaPa to Füssen during the week. Some buses are not direct, they may have a change at Echelsbacher Brücke or Oberammergau, but there are, nevertheless, a lot of bus connections between Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Hohenschwangau.

"what kind of ticket is suitable: Bayern pass, RVO day pass ?"

If you go only by bus, the RVO day pass. It you are including trains, then the Bayern-Ticket. Also look at the Werdenfel-Ticket.

Hi Stephen,
I don't have too much luggage, fine for me to travel around with the luggage if needed. Choose to leave the luggage at Munich since I will be traveling from Salzburg to Munich and return to Munich again to depart to Singapore.

Hi Lee,
WoW, that is great!

Thanks both for your help!

Regards,
Grace
