If your travel plans include a visit to the wonderful Deutsches Museum on Museuminsel in the Isar River, be advised that a major ten-year renovation project gets underway in October. About half of the museum will be closed, and many large exhibits will stored or moved to other locations. Aircraft (with the exception of the large Ju.52 transport) are being moved to the museum's aviation branch at Flugwerft Schleißheim for display. The press release says that about 30 of 50 major exhibitions will be completely redesigned; and others updated. Mark your calendars; the museum director plans for everything to be finished by 7 May 2025.
One of the goals of the project is to rebuild the seawall to protect the basement level of the museum from flooding by the Isar River which surrounds it.
