Making a morning (7.30-8.00) departure from train/bus station on a Sunday. Wondering about walking time from the Viktualienmark area. Are trams running then?
The trams start running a little before 5 you should not have a problem. Some routes run all night too.
Unless you're loaded down with bags it's not a bad walk, and especially pleasant early in the morning. Viktualienmarkt to Hauptbahnhof is 1.4 km (0.9 mile), about 20 minutes at a normal pace.

I'd go to Marienplatz (3 min.) and take the S-Bahn from there (2 stops).
Which place, the train or the bus station? Trains leave from the Munich Hauptbahnhof; buses, like the IC bus to Prague, use the Munich ZOB (Zentrale Omnibus Bahnhof) near the Hackerbrücke S-Bahn station. It's about 2.4 km from Viktualienmarkt to the ZOB, 1.7 km to the Hbf.
If you have a train ticket or a ticket for the IC bus, you should be able to use the S-Bahn from Marienplatz to get to either place. Hackerbrücke is one stop past the Hbf.
