Munich car rental: best way to Oberammergau?

Hello!
I’m flying in and out of Munich to get to Oberammergau for the Passion play in August - recommendations on best rental car company and best route?

I’m landing in Munich around 16:30, and staying in Halblech, Bayern, about 30 minutes away from Oberammergau.

Just use Google Maps , or the car's GPS, to get around. The roads are well signed. ( Ask the rental agency to change the GPS language to English before driving away). Lots of choice for rental companies. You may find it easier to go through AutoEurope.

I'll give the usual precaution against driving immediately after a a trans-Atlantic flight (unless your flight comes from somewhere else in Europe).

If you have no business within the city of Munich itself, try to avoid driving through or near it. Driving in most German cities is surprisingly easy, but Munich, along with Stuttgart, are two big exceptions. Munich has some outer beltway roads that allow you to bypass the city, but unfortunately, the southern portion is incomplete, and you need to drive through the city for points further south.

I might suggest following the outer ring (A99) to A96 towards Landsberg am Lech, then take B17 towards Halblech. You'll avoid some of the worst Munich traffic this way.

I took a rental car to visit that part of Bavaria from Munich 2 years ago, unfortunately can't remember the name of the company. We got there in a little more than one hour and visited Oberammergau, Ettal and Linderhof palace during one afternoon. Map of how we got there is at 30' of this video. Don't miss Etal and Linderhof palace (you'll see why), it was so tranquill when I was there but I guess it will be far more crowded during the Passion play.
