Munich car museums

So when my husband heard we were stopping at Munich on our way to Venice, my original itinerary changed! He's a car enthusiast. So I'm planning arriving in Munich from miami overnight flight, I'll be like a zombie. I thought of taking train to hotel near Porsche museum see the museum then go to the hotel and crash! Next day do the factory tour then go to the Mercedes museum. I know that they are not near to each other. Should we get a hotel near the Mercedes after the Porsche and fly out out the next day to venice?
Thanks.

Your husband seems to have mixed up Mercedes and Porsche, which are in or near Stuttgart, resp., with BMW, which is in Munich. However, car lovers like the BMW "World" too.

It was a very long time ago, but we did go to the BMW museum in Munich at my husband's insistence. Loved it and certainly recommend it. Sadly, I now drive a Hyundai not a BMW. Ah me.

In Munich it's an easy ride on the U-Bahn to Verkehrszentrum, which is the branch campus of Deutsches Museum devoted to all manner of surface transport -- automobiles, motorcycles, railways, urban transit and marine vessels. Well worthwhile, as is Flugwerft Schleißheim on the north side of town, the Museum's branch dealing with aviation, and located on a historic airfield that dates back to WW1.

Yes, we are aware that the museum is in Stuttgart, we want to take the train there and do the porsche museum and stay a short distance from there. My question is should we rent a hotel near the Mercedes museum for the following night since both museums seem far from each other. Thank you.

That will be a long journey as Munich (centre, add an extra hour or so from the airport) to Stuttgart is over two hours by the fastest trains. These cost 35 euros single - you can significantly reduce the price if you pay in advance but those cheaper tickets require you to pick a specific train to travel on, which is a big gamble if there are flight delays. Alternatively since you want to go straight from Munich airport it might be worth getting a connecting flight to Stuttgart if the timing works.

I visited both museums in Stuttgart a couple of years ago. The Mercedes one is very good but the Porsche one is less rewarding unless you are a huge fan of the marque - lots of very similar racing cars and 911 variants.

Both museums are also quite remote from the centre and while they are accessible by public transport there aren't hotels very close to either one.

As other people have said, Munich itself has the Verkehrszentrum transport museum (which has a lot of cars as well as rail vehicles) and the BMW museum, which I thought was quite good though not as good as the Mercedes-Benz one in Stuttgart.

Or the other way to Hangar Seven just outside Salzburg which is where Red Bull shows off its Formula 1 and lower formula cars, and several planes and one space capsule and squirrel suit used for the jump. Cost for Hangar 7 is nothing - free - nada.

And you get a trip to Salzburg thrown in for good measure.
