Munich between Christmas and New Years?

We are looking at being in Munich between Christmas and New Years. Has anyone been there at that time? What was your experience? Would you recommend going at that time?

i used to live close enough that Munich was a weekend visit. I've been there during the Christmas holidays multiple times, although it's been a few years since the last. The issue you're going to face this coming year is that Christmas itself is on a Friday. That means Thursday is, at best, a half day when things are open, Friday is the holiday, Saturday is also a major holiday, and Sunday very little is open even when it's not a holiday weekend. I highly recommend you book a place where you can cook, or where they will guarantee the restaurant is going to be open, and do some food shopping before noon on Thursday.

But New Years Eve should be a really good party, also falling on a Friday and leading into a long weekend.

Some of my best pictures of Munich are from Sundays and holidays, because you can see stuff without a lot of people in the way. But it can be cold and windy in December, so be prepared.

We lived in Augsburg, 50 miles west of Munich.
The Christmas markets are over by then.
It gets dark about 4:30 and it will be cold, bring a good overcoat, gloves and hat.
I prefer Germany when it is warm.
