Munich Airport to City Centre

We need to get from Munich Airport to the Concorde Hotel in Munich. We would like to find an affordable way that accommodates two large suitcases and two small ones.

The S-Bahn has plenty of space for luggage and is very affordable.

According to Google Maps, Concorde Hotel is a 6 minute, ¼ mile walk from the Isartor S-Bahn station.

From the airport, take the S-8 S-Bahn, about 34 minutes, to Isartor. The S-1 goes around the west side of town and takes about 49 minutes to Isartor.

It doesn't really matter much which train you get on at the airport. If the S-1 is the next one leaving, and you take it, you'll only get to Isartor 2 minutes later than if you had waited 13 minutes for the S-8.

The S Bahn trains originate there at the airport and you will have no difficulties finding room for yourselves or your luggage. They are truly the best way to make this transfer. This is assuming that you can manage your luggage and walk the short distance to your hotel from the S Bahn station.
Here is a link to a brief video about how to use the SBahn to get from the airport to the city.

Another thing about the airport S-Bahn.

I've often arrived at MUC and headed immediately in the direction of Salzburg, to Herrenchiemsee, Freilassing, or Berchtesgaden. This is best done by taking the S-Bahn to Ostbahnhof, where you can catch a regional train in the direction of Salzburg. At the airport, the signage is a bit misleading. It says the S1 goes to Ostbahnhof and the S8 goes to Herrsching or Weßling, which are far west of downtown Munich.

However, those are the ultimate destinations of the S-Bahn. Both stop at Ostbahnhof; but the S8 gets there a lot faster.

The S-1 goes around the west end of the city, stops at the Hauptbahnhof, then goes through the trunk line under Munich, terminating at Ostbahnhof 53 minutes after leaving the airport.

The S-8, on the other hand, goes around the east end of the city, stops at Ost, then goes through the trunk line, through the Hauptbahnhof, then to Herrsching or Weßling. The S8 gets to Ost 30 minutes after leaving the airport.

The S-Bahn makes multiple stops as it goes through Munich, including Ostbahnhof, Rosenheimerplatz, Isartor, Marienplatz, Karlstor, the Hauptbahnhof (Hbf), and several stops west of the Hbf. Of those stops, the Lufthansa bus goes only to the Hbf. So unless your hotel happens to be at the Hbf, you'll have to walk (more time) or pay (more €) to take some other transport from the Hbf to get to it.

There is one Lufthansa bus every 20 minutes and it takes about 45 minutes, depending on traffic. There are two S-Bahn every 20 minutes and they take 42 minutes (S8) or 47 minutes (S1) to the Hbf; the S-Bahn might take a minute or two longer during rush hour.

The fare for the Lufthansa bus is 11,79€/P. The single trip fare for the S-Bahn to any of the above-mentioned stops is 13,60€/P, but you can buy a Tageskarte (day pass, good for more trips that day by S/U-Bahn, trams, or buses) for 15,50€, single, or 29,10€, up to 5 people.

Unless your hotel is close to the Hbf, the S-Bahn from the airport is, IMO, better than the Lufthansa bus.

In the case of the OP, he wants to go to the Concorde Hotel, which, according to Google Maps, is a 1.3 mile walk from where the Lufthansa bus drops you off at the Hbf.
