Munich Airport to Andaz Hyatt & Duty Free

My small family and I will visit Munich for 3.5 days end of August to explore and buy German goods before flying to France for a week. I read the LH Bus can drop us off at Munich Nord / Schwabing then 15 minute walk to the hotel. With a stroller and checked bag, and after long flight, will the walk be pleasant for scenery and fresh air? Or we can catch a taxi or Uber from the bus stop to the hotel. Alternatively, I am considering a taxi or Uber direct from the airport.

My next question is regarding duty refund. If we purchase goods (toys & luggage) in Germany and will fly to France, can we claim tax refund in Munich, or do we wait until leaving France? Can we place the toys in the luggage and remove luggage price tags (carry-on) if we need to claim it in France since items need to be unused to claim duty refund?

Lastly, are there any significant events happening end of August? Are there any activities for toddlers? Thanks.

With a stroller, it's rather half an hour's walk. There is no UIber in Germany, I'd take a taxi, since public transport would imply two transfers. Download the MVV app and look up what's on offer.

For events, look up the web site of the city of Munich

You have to get your VAT reclaim forms stamped when you leave the EU. This will be when you leave France (unless you are going to another EU country from France).

I don't think the price tags make any difference. To claim the VAT refund, the goods most be exported from the EU unused and intact. If they are used, their value is less, that is the logic. And you can only claim back VAT on the value of the goods when exported.
Whether anybody from customs would notice that the luggage is used is another matter. They usually just stamp the papers without checking the goods.

VAT refunds ARE nothing to do with the Schengen Area (which is for people, not goods), but it is a lot to do with the EU, which IS a Customs Union. The EU is a slightly different list of countirs than the Schengen Area.

Thank you. The explanation and links provided make sense.

It looks like Uber is now in Germany. The price quoted from the airport to Andaz on Uber's site shows 50 Euros.

if you put the toys in the luggage and then use the luggage to carry them around how can you say the luggage is unused - which is a criteria for VAT rebate?

If I were the Customs official checking before stamping I would see the toys in the luggage.
