munich airport hotel recommendation?

Our flight from San Francisco arrives at 5:10 pm at Munich; leaving on a flight to Palermo Sicily at 9 a.m. the next morning. Am thinking of booking a room at the Holiday Inn Express which is a decent price and I believe it has an airport shuttle. Can anyone recommend it; or any other hotel near the airport with an easy shuttle?

I just stayed at the Hilton airport last week and it was great. The Hilton is literally at the airport as you exit the terminal, no shuttle needed. It is also handy if you want to run into the city for the evening due to the S bahn stop being right there.

We stayed at the MOXY which is a new style hotel by Marriott. The price was right for us, the shuttle to/from the airport was convenient, but the hotel was unusual. We (a couple in our early 60's) was not the target audience (too much technology, no phone to use to call the front desk) but like I said, it was priced right, convenient, and clean.

The Holiday Inn Express is a fine choice for your needs. I've found Holiday Inns in Germany to be slightly better than the franchises in the US (newer rooms, better breakfast).

If you were not just arriving from SFO I would recommend staying in Freising (most hotels there offer airport shuttles) to take advantage of an evening stroll in the village and dinner at a nice restaurant rather than just a normal airport hotel area. But I imagine you will be beat and ready for bed when you arrive.

The comment by the person above who mentioned the Moxy hotel by Marriot was an understatment. It was a most horrible hotel to stay at, and I travel a lot. Do yourself a favor and don't! first it is far from the airport. Their shuttle does not drop you off by the entrance to the airport, which was difficult to carry the luggage.
The hotel, which they call a new concept, is just a new concept to reap people off. It has NOTHING! no phone, no food , no totileteries, can't even remember a Tv, no safe, N O T H I N G. (they prepare some food not suitable for everyone, and no restaurant to eat.) I literally starved for more than 20 hours, till I got to the airport the next day. It is not even clean, and the service is horrible. The door lock didn't work, and they said I should just leave it open....I traveled alone, a female.....nice!!!!!
I sent a complaint to the Marriot, they hardly bothered to answer.
I had a similar bad experience with the Marriot Courtyard in Munich. Don't stay there either. dangerous location, dirty and rather expansive for what it is. I am back in Munich in June, staying at the Mercure. Hope it is much better.
Had I known, I would have just paid the higher price for the Hilton, so I would not have had the aggrevation I had.

Just wanted to update you all. My husband at I ended up staying the night at Hotel Arcadia near the airport. Am glad we didn't choose the Moxy after the latest post- yikes. We arrived at the Munich airport from SFO at 5:10 pm. Made it easily thru customs and followed the signs to buses and hotel shuttles. I knew from www.hotels.com reviews to go to bus stop 11. Also knew I needed to call the hotel for the shuttle. I asked a nice couple from our flight if I could borrow their mobile phone. I knew from our flight they were coming home to Germany & figured they had a phone. She happily called and spoke German to ask about the shuttle. She said wait right there the shuttle was on its way!

Hotel Arcadia is within a kilometer of both the Holiday Inn Ex & the Moxy, but was better situated in a more charming tiny village with a couple of choices for dinner. We took a marvelous walk then got a pizza to go at a little restaurant a block from the hotel. We slept well in a clean room (nothing special but the hot shower was perfect.) Took the 15 minute shuttle back to the airport for our morning flight.

Our friend who was on the same SFO to Munich flight stayed at the airport Hilton for almost twice the price but raved about its convenience. Happy travels!
