Munich airport, eurowings and returning Europcar rental

Our Europe trip is coming to an end and we are going to the Munich airport tomorrow flying home to Florida on euro wings. Couple of questions.
1) Our eurowings flight was supposed to take off at 2:15. Received an email tonight saying that the time changed to 7 PM. And the follow up link said between 7pm and 11pm. However theyre still requiring we be at the airport at the original check in time by 1245. They said that they could go later than 7 o’clock but they could also leave earlier so you have to be at the airport anyway. I’ve never heard of this. Does anyone have any experience with the Munich airport or eurowings or how this all unfolds?
2) does that mean we need to go through security and then just sit at the gate upwards of 4 1/2 to 7 1/2 hours? Or can we date in the main part of the airport until we know the exact time of leaving? Is Munich a nice airport? Are there things to keep us busy?

3) We need to drop our rental car off at Europcar. It’s supposed to be at the airport but I don’t know how far it is from where we have to check in? Does the airport have a curbside check-in that we can drive up drop off our luggage, check-in like we can in Orlando airport and then go over to Europcar and return the rental?

I am sure you will get some better answers, but looking at the airport map, the rental car return is in the parking garage on the northwest corner of the central hall where the train station is. It is between Terminal 1 and 2, so easy inside walk to one or the other. Did not see anything about curbside luggage check. Eurowings site said domestic flight are from Terminal 2, but intercontinental flights are at Terminal 1. Better confirm on your own. It did show flight to Ft Myers tomorrow delayed, but you still had to be at the gate at scheduled flight time. Look over the airport website as to what services are there.

We returned home through Munich last week. We had to check out of our hotel at noon but our flight didn't leave until 7:50 pm. We flew British Airlines, so were not allowed to check in until 3 hours before the flight. We found a food court and had a nice lunch and hung out there for a while. Once we checked in we proceeded to passport control which took 1 1/4 hours to get through! It was horrible. After that we proceeded directly through security which moved along a bit faster but was still slow. We ended up at our gate with 1 hour before boarding. We had plenty of time, but many other people in the passport control line missed their flights. We let many people cut in front of us, but I'm not sure it helped much. So plan ahead!
With regard to rental car return, yes just follow the signs to the drop off and then proceed to the terminal. Very easy.

It went great. Thank you for asking. They gave us 40 euros in vouchers for food which was very nice. You were all correct in how easy it was to find the car rental and thank you for the link to the airport. Y’all are awesome. I just posted an update on the trip. Thank you all for everything.
