Munich airport car return

Depends on very much parameters we all do not know. Best is to ask rental car provider whether there is a surcharge if you drop the car at main station.

You have several options -

Option 1. If your parking in Munich is free, park the car and use it to return to the airport the morning of the flight. Be sure to fill up with gas before you return the car. Leave Munich proper no later than 6:00 AM so you will have time to drive, gas up, and return the car and still be at the airport security check-in by 8 AM. This option gives you the most time to explore Munich the day before.

Option 2. Return the car to MUC the afternoon or evening before your flight. Then catch the SBahn (or bus depending on the location of your hotel) back into Munich. The next morning catch the Sbahn (or bus) back to the airport- Leave Munich no later than 6:30 AM so you will still be at the airport security check by 8 AM. This will cost you 2 one - way tickets between Munich and the airport which can be more than the parking costs depending on the size of your traveling party, so you still may want to use option one.

Option 3. If you are staying in Munich for several nights before catching the 1`0 AM return flight, make your car rental reservation so that you can return the car to the airport on your way into Munich. A car is a liability in Munich due to the traffic and parking costs. Then catch the Sbahn (or bus) from the airport to Munich and back to the airport the morning of your return flight. Be sure you leave Munich early enough to be at the airport security line NLT 8 AM.

I usually follow option 3- make Munich the last stop of the trip. But I plan the car and hotel waaaaay ahead to get the best deals.
