We are thinking of spending 10 days in Munich in December and want to do day trips. Is there enough to do to stay in one place that long and what would you recommend including day trips. Also in terms of weather is it a mix or pretty much count on not much sun and snow/cold? Thanks for input
I think it depends on how much travel you are willing to do for each day trip. Around 1 1/2 hours you can see Nuremberg, Regensburg, Augsburg, Salzburg and (one of my favorites) Kloster Andechs. Stretch to two hours and you can visit the Zugspitze, Innsbruck and Stuttgart. Some of these trips are regional/local and you can get there on a Deutschland Ticket. The longer trips will need an ICE ticket or longer travel times. IMO Munich itself easily has enough for 3-4 days, not including time for the Christmas Markets that will be underway.
As you look at your options you may want to consider an overnight instead of just a day trip to the larger sites, such as Salzburg or Nuremberg.
Have a great trip.
The days are short at that time of year.
