MUC lounges ?

We will be flying Munich-SFO in January, flight operated by Lufthansa, and have "Priority Pass" access (Chase Reserve card) to Atlantic lounge in terminal 1 -- has anyone used this ? Late-afternoon flight so we may have a long time at the airport.

From where and on what airline are you arriving at MUC? Your MUC-SFO flight undoubtedly leaves from Terminal 2, which handles Lufthansa as well as trans-Atlantic flights. Terminal 1, which handles mostly domestic flights, is some distance from Terminal 2.

At least it looks like the Atlantic Lounge is in the middle of Terminal 1 (the Terminals are connected at the middle so you just walk through the MAC to Terminal 2.

I haven’t used that lounge but as Lee says it’s not in the terminal your flight will be departing from. The secure areas of terminal one and terminal two are not connected. So you’d have to go through security in terminal one to access the lounge then exit security and go through security and passport control again in terminal two to get to your flight. It’s possible they won’t let you into terminal one with the ticket for terminal two but I’m not sure about that.

If it were me I’d rather relax at Airbräu outside security or take advantage of one of the relaxation spaces in T2 before trying to use a lounge in T1.

Thanks, that's what I thought. I had read someplace that we could get between terminals by a special bus that would keep us in the security zone, to avoid going through checkpoints again.

Lee, we'll be arriving into MUC by S-bahn after spending the last few days of our Christmas-markets-plus trip in Munich.

A second vote for Airbräu. Our flight out of Munich was pushed back so we ended up with quite a lot of time to kill. Did some of that with some darn good Spaetzle (came with side salads) and lingered over a couple of craft brews. MAC's big center courtyard - where Airbräu is - also nice for taking turns stretching your legs before a long flight.

(The courtyard is outside security.)

But just because you have a late afternoon flight doesn't mean you have to spend hours and hours at the airport. Most accommodations will keep your bags for awhile after checkout so you could do a little exploring before heading off to catch your plane.

I stand corrected. There is shuttle inside the secure area between T1 and T2 so you would be able to access the lounge but still need to allow time to transit to T2. The airport website seems to recommend adding 15 minutes to any transit time if you’re going between terminals.

Even with this new information I would still recommend going to Airbräu or use the facilities in T2 instead.

The S-Bahn runs about every 10 minutes. Seems like you could arrange it so you don't have to spend a long time at the airport. I thought maybe you were arriving on a morning flight and didn't want to leave the airport.

No, Lee, I just travel with someone who gets anxious if we're not at the airport with hours to spare. (On the other hand, we have never missed a flight....) We once spent several hours at SFO in the Air France lounge courtesy of Priority Pass, dining and drinking, so I keep looking for other similar experiences.

I am an extremely nervous and anxious flyer which is ironic because my husband worked in the aviation industry and walks me through every noise and movement of take off and landing, but we flew out of terminal 2 and I was really worried because there was no lounge. There are however lots of nice restaurants and shops to browse and free WiFi. We were there for several hours and I was fine. We found a nice table at one of the restaurants and had lunch and a few glasses of wine. Also note when we went to go to the gate about 15 mins before boarding we realized we had to take a tram to our gate, we made it but it was an unexpected bit of stressthst I could have done without. If you do the lounge repost about your experience and the timings don’t any tips. Happy Travels!!!!
