Month Road trip through Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Czech Republic

Hello - we are a group of two couples in our early 60’s flying from Vancouver Canada to Frankfurt at the end of August and would like to rent a car for 29 days. We will drive when we land and go to the Mosel Valley for 4 nights, Basel for two nights, Interlaken area for four nights, Innsbruck for one night, Salzburg for two nights, Schladming for four nights (we have friends here) then meander our way to Prague staying for three nights in two places, then 5 days to Dresden, Hannover - haven’t fully decided on this part yet. Then to Frankfurt area (probably stay an hour away somewhere) for the night before we have to return the rental car. Then we will fly to Croatia for a week and back to Frankfurt to fly home. Thanks for reading this far! Does this sound doable? Not too much? I have read that the fees/taxes from renting a car from the airport is high. Is there another place close by we could train from the airport and rent the car from there and then return to there and train back to the airport when we fly to Croatia? I checked rentals in downtown Frankfurt, and they are less, but I don’t think we want to drive in the city. It adds about $500CDN extra for the 24% airport tax when renting a car. Also any tips on buying petro? In Canada we have rewards offered at certain petrol stations. Any other tips would be appreciated on car rentals or road trips or what not to miss! Thanks so much!

Don't forget to buy vignettes for Switzerland, Austria, and Czechia. Also each driver should have an International Drivers Permit.
