Will be needing to get from Moers to Amsterdam in November. I am traveling by train with a toddler. What is the best route? Do I need to purchase a ticket ahead of time? What is the best site to purchase this ticket?

The local train runs from Moers to Duisburg every half hour; buy the ticket there. The longer ride from Duisburg to Amsterdam offers advance-purchase discounts if you're ready to commit to a date and time, available now for travel dates through November 17. Purchase through the DB link at How to Look Up Train Schedules and Routes Online. Children under 6 travel free without a ticket but if you're adding a seat assignment, then add the toddler to the booking.

When buying Sparpreis tickets, only the Duisburg-Amsterdam leg requires you to make the specific train. So in the morning, you can take any local train that gets to Duisburg before the departure to Amsterdam. But Duisburg is not high on anybody's list of interesting German cities.
