Mittenwald for two nights - Which gorge? Other ideas?

Hello-
We'll be staying two nights in Mittenwald and I've been looking at things to do in the area. My daughter and I are both landscape photographers, so love both nature scenes and quaint towns. I saw both the Leutaschklamm gorge and the Partnachklamm gorge - they both look amazing. Is it worth doing both? Or, is one better than the other (we'll be there in early July). How crowded does it get if we go in the morning?

Any place that we would be able to get amazing sunrise or sunset shots?

Any other tips or ideas?

We'll be coming from the Dolomites, though it sounds like it might be rainy while we're there.... How far is the Zugspitze from Mittenwald? Is the view a lot better than from Karwendelbahn?

Any places you recommend for drinks or dinner? It will be my husband and I and our two 20-something "kids"

Well, if you are in Mittenwald, Leutaschklamm is right there; Partnachklamm is a distance away.

Partnachklamm is outside of Germisch-Partenkirchen, which is about a half hour from Mittenwald.

I don't know about the Karwendel, but the view from the Zugspitze is often obscured by clouds.

Hi Theresa,

We like both the Zugspitze and Karwendel trips. Karwendel has terrific views at half the price of the Zugspitze. We love the Der kleiner Kartoffelsack for lunch, dinner or just coffee and people watching. Local, fun feel to the place. If anyone loves chocolate, order the "Mohr im Hemd" for dessert. There's also a luge ride (Sommerrodelbahn) in Garmisch, less than 30 minutes away.

Both are nice, Partnach offers more and is more demanding if you decide to take one of the trails up into the hills. If you feel particularly energetic, from Partnach you can reach Schachenhaus. Hollentalklamm is also a great hike.

I like Mittenwald, pretty surroundings.
