Mendelssohn-Haus Leipzig question

Hello Everybody,

I am planning a trip to Germany this summer, and one of the places I hope to visit is Leipzig (I plan to daytrip there from Berlin). I am a big classical music fan, and I am aware of the Bach sights (St. Thomas' Church and the Bach Museum) in Leipzig, but I also am aware that Felix Mendelssohn's house has been converted into a museum, and I would be interested in seeing that as well. However I have seen nothing from Rick's show or guidebooks about this, and no one in the forum has mentioned it, so I was wondering if any of you know if it's worth going to. Thanks.

Hi,

The houses/museums of composers in Leipzig are those of Liszt, Bach, Mendelssohn, Wagner, and Schumann. These sites have been mentioned here. No, I haven't been to any of them yet when I was in Leipzig. If not mentioned in the guidebook, another reason not to use that guidebook.

I am a big classical music fan,

Besides the memorial sites mentioned above you may want to visit the impressive Museum of Musical Instruments of the University of Leipzig:

To visit the most important music historical sites in a "logical" order, you can follow the "Leizipger Notenspur". Look up the flyer here:

We took a DT to Leipzig from Berlin in 2013. Went to the Bach Museum, St. Thomas church, Mendelssohn House, and St. Leipzig church. Very doable, well worth it. Didn't know about Liszt, Schumann nor Wagner houses which Fred has mentioned. Those will definitely be on the itinerary for our next Leipzig trip.
