Medical Marijuana Option in Germany

We are currently traveling in The Netherlands and Germany. Husband has a medical marijuana card for chronic pain where we live in the states, but that is of no use to him in other countries. He had no issue in The Netherlands (coffee shops were readily available). But he had legal concerns with bringing from The Netherlands into Germany (smuggling, according to German law).

In Berlin, I discovered a local Apotheke that dispenses medical marijuana. We spoke with the pharmacist inside the store. He told us about the process. First, go to DrAnsay.com (a telemedicine platform) and create an account. Second, select your items for purchase and your Apotheke pick-up store (they are located in multiple cities in Germany). Third, complete their online questionnaire that addresses medical conditions. Fourth, pay for the order.

In about 24 hours, we received confirmation that an online prescription was completed and that the order was in progress. Then just wait for confirmation that the order is ready for pick-up at your chosen Apotheke.

Since husband tends to be more risk-averse, this was the best route to follow for him. Just thought I would share the info and our experience in case others on this forum would find this useful.

Happy travels!

So, don’t bring in medical marijuana, but pick it up after you get there? And then use it all up (or dispose of it) before you fly out? I guess a trip including other countries (besides Netherlands) could require further arrangements.

I hope your travels go smoothly, and that your husband’s medical condition is adequately treated by what was dispensed at the Apotheke.

Hi Cyn. Will answer your questions to provide clarification. Yes, we did not bring in medical marijuana. Yes, we picked it up at an Apotheke (using the Dr Ansay site) after we got to Berlin. Yes, husband's plan is to use it all before we fly out. If he cannot use it all, he will dispose of it before flight. And yes, if we were to travel to other countries, we would need to research similar potential options. For this particular trip, we will be flying back to the USA directly from Germany.

Thank you for your kind wishes! This discovery (Dr Ansay site) has helped tremendously.

Here is what a Google overview says: Dr. Ansay is a legally operating telemedicine platform best known for providing online doctor's notes and medical cannabis prescriptions in Europe. However, while the business exists as a real service, it has faced significant regulatory scrutiny, lawsuits, and ongoing scrutiny over its operations.

My questions is......where did you smoke it? Smoking in hotels is not allowed. Smoking it on the street is not allowed. Were you renting an apartment and the landlord allowed it?
