May Day holiday

The last time I was in Europe on May 1 was over 20 years ago, and I remember everything shutting down. I'm assuming that still happens on May Day now.

If so, I will be leaving Berlin by train on April 30 and will be heading southwest towards the Würzburg/Nürmberg area. Is there any particular city or town I should head to (or stay away from) on May 1? I'm pretty flexible and will probably be in that area for 3-5 days. Thank you!

May 1 is on a Sunday this year. So, at least in Germany, Sunday rules apply. Stores are closed (except for those at train stations and airports), restaurants and museums are open (except for those that are closed on Sundays anyway). It is like on a normal Sunday. If you didn't know you probably wouldn't realize it was May 1.
