Maulbronn Abbey

Hi, I am hoping to go to Maulbronn on our way from Karlsruhe to Stuttgart/Esslingen area. It appears that I should be able to take the Karlsruhe transit system to Bretten then a bus from there to the Monastery. There are alternates also. Could someone point us to the best public transportation options from Karlsruhe to Maulbronn Monastery and then onward, to Stuttgart (do we return to Bretten if in fact that is the best or do we take a bus down to Pforzheim or ???).

I swear, this is the trickiest part of our trip! Thanks for your help...

Hi, I did see the information but was looking for recommendations for which of those would be the better starting point from Karlsruhe. That link you sent me didn't seem to apply, but it was in German so perhaps it was the way I was attempting to read it. Thank you for responding.

The best overview of connections between Karlsruhe and Maulbronn is on www.KVV.de (Karlsruher V'erkehrsverbund, can be set to English). Please note that some of the connections involve an "AST" (Anrufsammeltaxi) for the last leg, i.e. a taxi collectively used by several persons, which you have to order at least 30 min in advance by calling the number indicated.

for connections from Maulbronn to Stuttgart look up www.bahn.com. It appears that the fastest connections are through Eutingen (you don't go back to Bretten).

Thanks...I went back to the KVV site and this time, used French instead of English and was able to choose the right dates. Thanks for the advice on sharing the taxi also. I believe the Maulbronn website mentions a bus that runs from Bretten to the monastery also.

Thanks for the help.
