Martin Heidegger- Baden-Wurttemberg

I am planning a trip to Baden-Wurttemberg in September 2016 and want to go to Messkirch (Heidegger's birth place) and Todtnauberg (where he wrote) prior to going on to Freiberg (where he taught). My plan is to fly into Munich and rent a car since these are small towns off the beaten path. Does anyone have information about these towns since they are not in the tour book? Anybody local that knows of the philosophers work? etc. It would make my trip more meaningful. Thank you

I've never personally visited Messkirch or Todtnauberg, but I know the areas.

Messkirch is near Sigmaringen, which has an impressive castle that was once home to a branch of Prussia's ruling dynasty, the Hohenzollerns. I'm not surprised that you can't find too much about the region in guidebooks, because quite frankly, it isn't the most interesting area of Germany. It's fairly sparsely populated, and most of the towns and villages are rather non-descript.

Todtnauberg is close to Feldberg, the highest mountain in the Black Forest. It's one of the biggest ski areas in Germany outside of the Alps.

Thanks Tom. I realize that these places are not sites that most people find interesting which is why I could not find them in the tour book. It is about my own personal journey. I will do the fun stuff afterwards.

I've spent about a week, total, in Sigmaringen in five trips. It's always an enjoyable trip. It's a lovely town, particularly the market square directly below the castle.
