Hi, my girlfriend and I will be going to Berlin next month for vacation, and I would like to propose there. I think it would be exciting to do it on a vacation, we are from the US. I have never been there, does anyone have any suggestions of a great place? I was thinking maybe of having a caracature artist be in on it, and when the artist turns around the picture it could say "will you marry me?" Hoping I would have time to discuss this with the artist before hand and hoping they speak english etc, But I am up for other ideas!
On a boat on the Spree.
In the Lustgarten on Museum Island.
At the "fairy tale fountain" in Volkspark Friedrichhain.
Apparently there are not many romantics on the Forum.
One of the most enchanting spots in Berlin is the waterfall in Victoria Park (west side of Kreuzberg) that has a Prussian war memorial standing at the top of it. About half way down the waterfall, there is a bridge over the waterfall that is covered by trees. When I was there earlier this month, there were little soft white things floating through the air like snow. It was magical.
Brandenburg Gate
Window seat for dinner at the Fernsehturm (TV tower) -- have the waiter hand her a dessert menu that says, "Will you marry me?"
Thank you for the tips! I actually just booked the tv tower, so great minds think alike! I booked a window table right before sunset. I love your idea with the dessert menu!
You do realize now, that you are going to have to let us know what happens? :-)
Hi,
Great that you are seeing Berlin for the first time and spending a month there!
I agree with the suggested sites,...good suggestions... the Brandenburg Gate, Berlin Alexanderplatz Funkturm, the Spree Cruise...very nice...and even the Prussian memorial in the Viktoria Park in Kreuzberg. Keep in mind that the memorial (the Freiheitsdenkmal) lists the major and some minor engagements engaged in by the Allies against Napoleon from 1813 to 1815. Note, too, that the defeats suffered by the Allies in this time period (Dresden, Bautzen, Ligny, Montmirail, Vauchamps, etc.) at the hands of Napoleon are conveniently omitted...a blatant example of historical omission. I saw the Freiheitsdenkmal in 2007.
Another suggestion site....how about at the Siegessäule (Victory Column)?
See if you can find a Lebkuchen and buy it for her. The have large decorated heart shaped ones with sayings on them - look for or order a 'marry me' one...
@kitcat9711... I've had dinner at the TV tower twice with a reservation time shortly before sunset. It's pretty cool. I expected crummy food (because the main experience is eating 200 meters above the ground), but the food is remarkably good. Good luck!
Thanks for everyone's replies! I am very excited and will try to remember to post the outcome!
