Markets/Charity Shops in Germany

Hello all. I am new to this site and would love some info on Germany for a trip in May. I cannot seem to locate any shops and have tried various names such as charity shop, thrift store, etc. We visited a few years ago in the Munich and then south of there in Austria but cannot recall what they are called in the area. We will fly into Frankfurt and head directly to the Rhine (Bacharach), onwards to the Black Forest and there to Austria (Brand). We accidentally ran across what a would call a 'junk shop' that had loads of local goods for sale such as snow shoes, cow bells, etc. but we cannot recall where it was but want to look for similar stores/shops while visiting. Any idea what I should be looking for instead of 'thrift' or 'charity' ? Many thanks.

You need to look for words like Trödel Markt, (Troedel) Floh Markt, Antikmarkt, Zweite Hand, Krempelmarkt, Krimskrams.

Thank you so much for the speedy reply ! I will google those. So sad we passed on the great deals in 2010... hopefully we will find more. Thank you again.

At least in some places in Germany, these second hand stores (Zweite Hände Laden) are run by the German Red Cross (Rotes Kreuz). I visited one in Immenstadt, Bavaria. And the town we stayed in nearby had a Flohmarkt on Saturday morning.

That is close to where we will be staying - thank you so much. Looking forward to finding some authentic and memorable souvenirs to bring back. We try to bring back something very specific to the region/area we vacation in. With the hiking we did last time we were there we heard cow bells all the time... we thought that would be a great item to bring back :) Thanks again for the information.
