Hi, I'm planning a trip at the end of April next year and would love some suggestions.
I'll be visiting friends in Luxembourg city and from there I need to travel north to Kiel where I'll meet with family and take the Color Line ferry to Oslo. Since I'm in the beginning stages of planning this, timing is still flexible. I won't buy the ferry tickets until I have this sorted.
My plan is to take the trains. If I did Lux-Kiel in one day, it would be quite a travel slog. It looks like 9+ hours (and probably longer given the trains). I won't be in a hurry so there's no sense doing that. I could easily stop somewhere for a night or even two.
Can anyone suggest a town/city to break up my trip? Perhaps north of Cologne? Obviously, my stay won't be long enough for a deep-dive but someplace tourist friendly, with nice hotel and restaurant options, and accessible by rail. I suppose I could rent a car but I'd rather avoid it. I will be solo for this portion of my trip (US/male/50's). Thank you.
