Hi everyone, looking for places to possibly visit in Luxembourg. We'll be in Bacharach, Germany for 4 nights and have a day open before heading to Black Forest area. Debating if we should try to visit Luxembourg. We have a rental car and my husband has driven in Germany many, many times over the years for work. I saw a recommendation from an earlier forum post for the town Vianden on the German border? Any input is appreciated.
Thanks, Tracy

After reading of your interest in biking the Mosel, I'd like to suggest that you split your 4 hotel nights... 2 for Luxembourg and the Mosel, then the 2 Bacharach nights after that, since Bacharach will make for a shorter drive to the BF.

Vianden is a worthwhile stop, the castle a really good visit. It's over two hours by car from Bacharach on a good day.
We very much enjoyed a day which combined Monreal with Maria Laach Abbey/hike around the lake.
Vianden Castle is nice, but make sure you understand the tram does not go to the castle but to another peak across from it. Many tourists take the tram to avoid the hike up (because parking can be an issue near the castle) and then find they have to walk down from where the tram stops and then back up to the castle on a steep, rocky, trail. Note also that Vianden is an hours drive from Luxembourg city.
Personally I dislike driving in Luxembourg. Many of the roads are speed controlled tunnels and traffic in the city is horrible. Parking sucks also.
If you have a car I highly recommend the drive from Cochem to Trier along the river, but be prepared to overnight in Trier or one of the smaller towns, as it will take all day if you stop along the way. Perhaps you could do this and then go from Trier to the Black Forest? That's a nice drive also, depending on the route.
Thanks for the info. Much appreciated.
