Luther nazi east German trail

this 500th anniversary of the reformation I'm spending 5.5 days in berlin. 2 days in wittenberg. 2 in leipzig. 2 in erfurt. and 2 in nurnberg. 1. I've got a lot on my list but asking anyway, any must sees? 2. because of the short distances and costs 1/3 the amount I'm considering bus travel which would be a good idea unless the bus stations are out of the way.. any feedback?

I visited every place on your list except Leipzig, by train. Very easy, although Wittenberg Lutherstadt is a nice walk from the train station.

A guidebook can give you sight suggestions, each city's web page will have schedules of events.

Hope you have accommodations booked, Luther is a popular guy.

Did you overlook Buchenwald? City bus from Weimar, which is not on your list. Luther was a regular visitor to Weimar, according to the internet.

You could get to Buchenwald by taking a bus from the Goethe Platz in Weimar. Signs indicate which one,

costs 1/3 of what? Train? I don't think so. Look at Laendertickets and the special Luther-ticket offered by Deutsche Bahn. Moreover, as a rule bus rides take much longer than the trains.

Thanks for the input. I can almost quote Rick's germany 2017 guidebook. I'm purposely skipping concentration camps this time because they take so much travel time. I compared the $11.29 bus fare with the 39-69 euro train fare vs the 120 vs 90 minute ride from Nuremberg to Munich.

Instead of looking into the RS book I'd rather compare actual prices on both the DB and the Flixbus websites. Besides, Nürnberg and Munich are by no means in Eastern Germany and travel times between both can be as short as at 1:04 and saver fare tickets start at €19. But it's of course up to you if you want to spend way more time in a bus.
