luggage - storage

We are taking the train from Munich to Berlin and Berlin to Frankfort and plan to stop once along each leg to spend a few hours in one of the towns along the route. Is there typically an option for luggage storage at train stations? And if so, is it better (cheaper or easier to accommodate) to have three smaller bags or one large bag and one small (carry on size)?

Thanks,
Becky

At larger train stations you will find luggage lockers (German: Schließfächer) in two sizes.

How a train station is equipped you can check here (better enter German town names, e.g. Köln instead of Cologne or Nürnberg instead of Nuremberg or München instead of Munich):
https://www.bahnhof.de/bahnhof-en

They finally made it available in English in 2019 but with that issue mentioned ...
I already addessed it to to a friend who is Lead Digital Agenda Deutsche Bahn.

Normally you will find large and regular size lockers.
Large: 47.2 x 61.5 x 93.0 cm
Regular: 27.3 x 42.0 x 80.0 cm

Price for locker usage can vary between 3 and 6 EUR per locker. Have enough 1 and 2 EUR coins available.

Hi Becky,

There is a secure luggage storage in central Berlin at Hauptbahnhof (Central Station) charged at hourly rate accessible 24/7 and 4 Euros for a small/6 Euros for a large locker. They do open around 6: 15 am to 11:15 pm.. These lockers can be found in the car park outside main building area C which should be easy to locate .

For the cost effectiveness, I'd recommend to keep it 1 large and 1 small - we saved quite a bit ( groupd of 4) because we ended up spending the entire day at the berlin before moving to frankfort.

Frankfurt lockers are around 5-6 € for 24 hours. You walk to the main hall and to your left find the luggage facilities. For your info, you won't have difficulty finding lockers -- it's part of journey.

Enjoy you trip!

Hi,

Keep in mind that in the coin locker areas, ie more than one in a big train station, like Munich, Hamburg, Frankfurt, etc no coin changer machine is available, have on you one Euro, two Euro and 50 cent coins.
