I have travel plans from US to Frankfurt this upcoming Saturday. How can I pre-empt issues with the strike? I am meeting someone there who is traveling on Icelandair. I don't want them to arrive and I never get to show up. Ugh.
I believe you will just have to wait and see---nerve wracking, I know. But right now the strike is only for November 29-30, and the airline is only offering free cancellation or re-booking for flights on those days.
Thank you. Yes, very anxiety inducing. I see you are from Seattle. I wish Icelandair flew in this neck of the woods.
Lola, free booking? Is that for flights on Lufthansa only, or for other airlines as well, if, because of the strike, Lufthansa is not flying the route.
I believe it is only free cancellation or re-booking if you have tickets on one of the cancelled Lufthansa flights. The information is on the Lufthansa website. It did not sound like connecting flights on other airlines would be included---probably would have to claim that on one's travel insurance.
Is your flight operated by Lufthansa, or just a code share with them? We have flights over Christmas and New Year's but both of our out-bound flights are operated by United and are just a code-share with Lufthansa. Our flight AMS-MUC is operated by Air Dolomini, and is code-shared with Lufthansa, so those three flights are all for sure going to be okay. It's only the ones that are actually operated by Lufthansa that you will have a potential issue with.
My flight is operated by United but flying with Lufthansa. I called them today and they said there is nothing that can be done - yet - because the strike is currently only through November 30th. Sigh.
It appears to be over. Lufthansa posted something on the website earlier today announcing a resolution.
Thank you all for your replies. For now, all seems to be a go for my flight. I will definitely think twice about Lufthansa for future flights.
